Obituary. William Darby. Another old identity in the person of Mr William Darby passed away at his residence, Salisbury Street, a few days ago. He was well known on the West Coast in the early 'sixties, afterwards being in the Land and Survey Department for nearly forty years, from which he retired on superannuation about five years' ago. The funeral took place last Thursday and was largely attended, several of his old school mates being present. He leaves a family of two sons and two daughters.

The death occurred to-day of Mrs E. Oakey, of Trafalgar street, after a long illness at the age of 73. The late Mrs Oakey had been a resident of Nelson for many years having come out with her parents in 1859. She married the late Mr Alfred Oakey who had the wellknown business in Bridge street. Mr Oakey died in 1896 and since that time Mrs Oakey has been carrying on the business. Mrs Oakey won wide respect for the manner in which she fought against the many difficulties encountered by a woman in business. Three sons and a daughter are left to mourn their loss.
